About the Role:

Techner is seeking experienced Microwave Design Engineers to plan, design, and optimize microwave backhaul networks supporting 4G/LTE and 5G transport infrastructure. This role in Alaska focuses on RF link design, frequency coordination, and multi-vendor microwave system planning to ensure reliable, high-availability connectivity.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Perform microwave link budget calculations, path profiling, and line-of-sight (LOS) analysis.
  2. Design and optimize licensed point-to-point (PTP) and point-to-multipoint (PMP) microwave networks.
  3. Conduct frequency coordination and ensure compliance with FCC regulations.
  4. Develop technical design packages including schematics, Bills of Materials (BoM), and network documentation.
  5. Validate designs using planning and simulation tools to ensure performance and reliability.
  6. Collaborate with deployment and integration teams to support implementation and troubleshooting.
  7. Review and maintain accurate design documentation and as-built records.


Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or related field.
  2. 5+ years of hands-on experience in microwave backhaul network design within telecom environments.
  3. Experience working with multi-vendor microwave platforms.
  4. Strong expertise in RF propagation, fade margin analysis, modulation schemes (QPSK, QAM), and licensed microwave frequency bands.
  5. Proficiency with planning and design tools such as Pathloss, TEMS Link Planner, MapInfo, and Google Earth Pro.
  6. Experience designing both PTP and PMP microwave links.
  7. Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
  8. Must be located in Alaska and authorized to work in the U.S.
