About the Role
We are looking for an experienced VSAT Design Engineer to be based at the client's office in Alaska, supporting the design and deployment of satellite connectivity solutions across remote Alaska locations as part of a large-scale telecom infrastructure project.
Key Responsibilities
- Design end-to-end VSAT network solutions including link budget analysis, antenna sizing and frequency planning.
- Perform RF calculations including EIRP, G/T, C/N and rain fade margin analysis.
- Design hub and remote site configurations for Ku-band/Ka-band satellite systems.
- Develop technical documentation including network diagrams, link budgets, site design packages and MOPs.
- Configure and validate iDirect, Hughes, Viasat or Comtech VSAT platforms.
- Coordinate with satellite operators for spectrum licensing and frequency coordination.
- Ensure FCC regulatory compliance for all satellite deployments.
- Collaborate with field and construction teams to ensure designs are deployable in remote or harsh Alaskan environments.
- Support NOC teams during site commissioning and acceptance testing.
- Perform IP network design including TCP/IP, VLAN, QoS and routing protocols over satellite links.
- Attend daily coordination meetings with client and project teams on-site.
Requirements
- 5+ years of VSAT network design experience.
- Hands-on experience with iDirect, Hughes HT2000W, Viasat or Comtech platforms.
- Strong RF fundamentals including link budgets, antenna alignment, and Ku/Ka-band systems.
- Experience with DVB-S2/S2X modulation and MF-TDMA.
- Strong IP networking knowledge including TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP, QoS, and VLAN.
- FCC licensing and regulatory compliance knowledge.
- Experience designing for remote or harsh environments preferred.
- Alaska or rural deployment experience is a strong advantage.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or related field preferred.
- CCNA/CCNP or satellite-specific certifications preferred.
- Willingness to relocate to or already be based in Alaska.
